Sobre

Hi, I am Memoria James, and I'm a xenophile from Houston, Texas. After first visiting Europe in 2008 and living there for almost a year in 2012/2013, I am now determined to return there forever. I speak English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, with a reading knowledge of French. I can also read Korean characters but am far from fluent. I have a masters and have completed PhD coursework in Spanish and Portuguese linguistics, and I teach college-level Spanish. However, my heart now belongs to traveling, returning to Europe permanently, and conjuring up domestic and international, culinary creations.

I'm not married, and I live alone - hence, the name of this blog, which means "I eat alone/by myself" in Italian.  While living in Reggio Calabria, Italy (the "toe" of the boot near Sicily), I met the love of my life. Thanks to Skype and Whatsapp Messenger, we are able to contact each other daily; however, I hope to see him and his family again in 2014. My mother is my best friend in the whole world. We are like peas and carrots (-from Forrest Gump :D).

I love to bake and cook. I started learning how to bake and cook over five years ago. Before that time, I would eat out, buy microwaveable meals, or make simple sandwiches. I now love to try out different international dishes and make them as authentic as possible after much research and recipe comparisons. I also enjoy baking for my family, friends, colleagues, and students.

Please stop by my blog often and leave comments in French, English, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, or any other language you prefer. I love visitors!

If you are a brand or company interested in working with me, there are several ways we could work together such as recipe development, freelance food photography, product review, sponsored posts, brand ambassadorship, and conference representation. 2. Sawasdee Kha,

For some reason, I always admire people who can speak different languages.

  3. I just read your "about me" section and am very pleased to know that you are pursuing your doctorate. I hold a Ph.D. in marketing and have been a professor for 16 years. It is always nice to meet another like-minded soul in the blogosphere; there are few in higher ed who blog (I think due to the time and dedication that it takes). I am re-learning Italian after numerous years of non-use. Best wishes on all of your endeavors! Roz (aka Bella)

  6. Memoria,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. We have much in common. My undergrad work was in in Spanish and French, way too many years ago. We've moved many times over the years but found Houston was just one of our favorite places. My son, who will be married in August, now lives in Houston. So we have hopes that some day soon we'll be back. I read your blog regularly. NB: in my opinion, there is no bbq like Rudy's. I order the rub all the time. I've only been to the original in Leon Springs, but my son told me yesterday that there is a new location at 290 and the Beltway. He called yesterday to rub it in that he'd been there for lunch. Buena suerte with the doctorate. Very impressive.

  10. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and leaving such an encouraging comment! I love your title, by the way– really I love all things Italian-related.

  11. Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. I have noticed several of your kind comments/encouragements on few other blogs we both follow. Glad to know you are interested in learning Korean because it is my native language (but my level is only elementary since I came to US at early age)! So glad to get to know you better! Happy Cooking!

    Vou adicionar!!!

  21. Just another note...The verb "HABER" (to be) doesn't exist...It's "SER"
    Eu sou
    Tu és
    Ele/ela é
    Nós somos
    Vós sois
    Eles/elas são
